Blood Mountain

In July 2008, Andrew Taylor and Colleen Wilson were chosen to participate in a reality game show called ‘Survival of the Fittest’.  Their objective was simple:  Race through a section of the Rocky Mountains, to a finish line 80 kilometres away.  If they crossed the finish line in under five days, a $25,000 reward was theirs.

When they failed to reach the finish line, and with no communication between the team and the show’s producers; a missing persons report was filed with the local Sheriff’s Department and search parties were dispatched to locate the lost contestants.

The remains of Andrew Taylor were discovered on July 24.   Three days later, the remains of Colleen Wilson were found and recovered.

Something had gone horribly wrong.

Trauma to the bodies was so severe, dental records were required to make positive identification.  Local officials were at a loss to explain what could have caused such severe damage to the bodies.  The injuries suffered were inconsistent with any predatory animal local to the area of the race.  A Kodiak bear was initially listed as the likely culprit; however, subsequent autopsy and examination by the Coroner’s office dismissed this assessment.  The official cause of death was listed as an animal attack from species ‘unknown’.

Unique to the attacks was the dislocation and removal of limbs, which were forcibly removed at the joints.  The strength required to achieve such an injury would require a pulling force much greater that that which could be attained by any species of bear, or large cat found in the area.  A large man of considerable strength would not be able to duplicate the injuries without the aid of tools or other implements.

Contrary to this assessment, brute strength was noted as the likely method behind the trauma’s force.

Along with the bodies, the digital tapes and digital video recorders used to tape the team’s progress through the race were also recovered.  Immediately confiscated by the authorities, the tapes would yield no answer as to what caused the deaths.

Word of the attacks spread like wildfire, and speculation soon took hold.  Locals would dub the area where the attacks took place ‘Blood Mountain’.  Despite the lack of official information, news outlets opened to door for supposed ‘eyewitness’ testimonials and local folklore regarding cryptid creatures that roamed the thick forests of the Rocky Mountains.

Finally, in the winter of 2008, despite legal efforts by the broadcaster and producer’s of the television show, the tapes were released under the freedom of information act.   Subsequently, these tapes have been compiled for the first time in this documentary; which intends to shine a light on the mystery surrounding the mysterious attacks.

What you will see will likely shock you.  It is the intent of the filmmakers to expose the story as it is, and to invite viewers to establish their own views on what could have been responsible for the attacks on Andrew Taylor and Colleen Wilson, that to this day envelop the area in hushed tones and mystery.
